| SWIFT WATER RESCUE Swift
Water Rescue Technician Unit 1™ (SRTU1) This intensive three-day course (24-30 hours) contains one day of classroom followed by two days of practical field exercise. The initial emphasis of the course is on developing and practicing self-rescue skills. Other objectives include an in-depth look at water dynamics, hazards and obstacles, using basic rescue equipment, setting up technical ropes systems, controlling in-water contact rescues, and more. This is an essential course for anyone who may be required to perform a water rescue. Students are provided with a course manual and skills sheet. Upon successful completion of course requirements and test, the student will receive a Swiftwater Rescue Technician Unit 1™ (SRTU1) certificate, identification card and patch. Prerequisites:
SWIFTWATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN ADVANCED™ (SRTA) This three-day course incorporates four to six hours of classroom instruction, followed by two and one-half days of practical field exercise, including a mock night river rescue scenario. The night scenario takes place at dark on the second or third evening and lasts until its successful conclusion. Topics covered include preplanning; rescue and recovery management; flood specific problems; techniques for performing rescues in class IV-VI whitewater; raising/lowering systems; litter management; cliff picket anchors; "A" frames; tripod setups; night rescue; and much more.
