Rescue Awareness
This program is intended to give participants an understanding
of confined spaces and their hazards. Topics covered include confined
space identification, NFPA and OSHA standards and response guidelines.
Trench Rescue Operations
A 40-hour class that teaches personnel how to effectively protect themselves
from the hazards and potential dangers of cave-ins. Specific trench operations
include ventilation and de-watering procedures, atmospheric monitoring,
sheeting and shoring material preparation, support system construction
and application for non intersecting trenches, entry operations and patient
packaging/extrication. Additional training is given in risk/ benefit analysis,
scene management equipment selection.
Prerequisites: RTA Trench Rescue Awareness or equivalent; RTA
Confined Space Rescue Operations or equivalent; Rope Rescue Operations
or equivalent.
Trench Rescue Technician
This 24 hour course reviews OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and the various procedures
and equipment that are utilized during entry operations. A lecture review
of 29 CFR 1926 and various scene safety surveys are conducted along with
practical skill stations in support system equipment construction and
installation for intersecting trenches (L, T, X Trenches), entry operations
and patient packaging/extrication. Multiple entry operations are utilized
to reiterate the various safety lessons learned during the class with
special emphasis placed upon the command responsibilities of the Incident
Commander, Safety Officer and Operations Officer.
